Green Antelopehorn - Asclepias viridis
The Spider Milkweed or Green antelopehorn (Asclepias viridis) is a perennial native to the pinelands of North America.
It thrives in full sun and reaches between 2-4 feet in height and 1-2 feet in width. It requires well-drained soil with medium moisture and is moderately salt and drought tolerant. It prefers slightly acidic to neutral soil with a pH between 6.0 and 7.5.
The Spider Milkweed produces small greenish-white blooms from winter through summer.
This plant attracts a variety of wildlife and is a a larval host plant for Monarch, Queen and Soldier butterflies. It's also an important nectar source for bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds and wasps.
Propagation is best done through seed, which requires cold/moist stratification and can last up to five years when stored properly.
